An electronic version of the sacred mancave, where men can relax, have fun, and even learn a thing or two
RSSWe used to travel with a portable DVD player for my daughter when we would go on long trips like flying internationally or across country but other than the really long trips it was too much of a pain to get it ready, carry it, and get it set up for my daughter that we didn’t bother using it beyond those long trips and even then it was less than convenient.
About a year ago we started using our 80G iPOD Classic to play movies for her when we traveled which is much more convenient especially in the car and for shorter trips. The only thing we weren’t sure about though was playing the iPOD on TV’s where ever we were staying in hotels or condos. We finally decided to purchase a Griffin Composite video cable from Amazon so we could plug in our iPOD to the TV and watch movies. The cable cost about $30 and there were a lot of mixed reviews which made me a little bit nervous but we bought it anyway. After close to a years worth of use I can say we are so happy we moved in this direction. The cable works great albeit a little hard to get the 3 connectors into and out of the TV as they are stiff but other than that it is perfect. It also has a power adapter connected to it to charge and power the iPOD while streaming movies on the TV. The quality is a little better than I expected which wasn’t much considering you are scaling a small 2″ screen to 42″, 50″, or in some cases even 57″ depending on the big screen TV you have it plugged into. Generally it looks pretty good though. There is some noticeable pixelation and digitization sometimes during movies but all in all it’s a pretty good picture and definitely acceptable while traveling or for the kids to watch some movies on. It won’t be replacing my Blue-Ray player or anything but in a pinch it’s not bad and for traveling I would highly recommend it. It’s so nice to be able to take 15 or 20 movies with you on the iPOD and carry it all in a pocket or a purse.
