NPC cities are the lifeblood of Evony players late in the game because they provide an easy way to earn a TON of resources for very little effort, primarily feeding your massive army late in the game. Level 5 NPC cities are the best bang for the buck as well because you can get the most resources without many or even any losses. Level 6 and above have Trebuchets so you will always take losses. So what should you do to ensure you have NPC cities to feed your need?
First you need to reach a Title level that allows you to build another city. Rank means nothing. The title of Knight allows you to build your 2nd city and Baronet allows you to build your 3rd city and this is key, don’t take the promotion to Major until you have taken Baronet, always take Title before Rank. You will need medals to get promoted and the main way to get them is from attacking valleys although you can get them from Medal Boxes and the Wheel of Fortune as well.
I have heard a lot of theories for finding medals and a lot of “dated” pages on the Internet explaining no lose ways of finding them but in my recent experience most haven’t worked. Here is what has worked for me. Attacking Level 7 – 10 valleys has yielded EVERY type of medal for me. I have found no medals in valleys 6 or below despite 100’s of attacks. I have also found no medals from attacking level 1 – 5 NPC cities although the resources are nice for Level 4 & 5 so that is ok. When attacking valleys for Medals I have used a high Intel hero with 135+ intel ranked in the top 25 on server and also a 120 Attack hero and neither seems to have more luck than the other so I am not sure about the claims that a high Intel hero matters for Medals. When attacking valleys for Evony Medals I send a lot of Archers/Warriors and several hundred workers and 1 of all other troops to make a full rainbow not including machinery like ballistas and transports, too slow. I have found them in all types of valleys but seem to have the best luck in level 9 – 10 Flats and Lakes although the overall drop rate seems to be in the 1% range after thousands of attacks on valleys. Also, I just attack them and return, I do not conquer, occupy, abandon them. I also am sure to give a valley at least 1 hour to regenerate all of its troops before my next attack. And to minimize casualties and maximize my XP while doing this I scout valleys to find ones with large groups of a single troop type like 19k warriors or 15k swordsman or 22k thousand pikeman. I then send a huge army of archers in a rainbow, take few losses, get around 100k XP, and possibly find a Medal each attack. Flats are also nice because you get a random resource when you attack which later can be more valuable than food from lakes.
Now once you have found enough medals to get that Title promotion to Knight, Baronet, Baron, etc so you can build more cities you want to make NPC’s are start farming them. Early on a few level 4 NPC cities are nice to help you build faster but you really want to make as many Level 5 NPC cities as you can within 10 miles of your city. Look for level 5 flats around your city and remember they change level every 24 hours so just because a flat next door was level 9 yesterday doesn’t mean it isn’t level 5 today so keep checking. When you see a level 5 flat you send a group to attack it and include 250 workers, and 10k of each resource – gold, food, lumber, iron, and stone. When you attack the flat and defeat it your troops will occupy it. Click the flat where your flag is now and you should have an option to Build City along with normal options of Enter, Reinforce, Transport. Click Build City and then Recall troops. When done a box will appear for you to name your new city. Name it NPCtown or something. Then go into Overview under your character portrait on right side of screen, then click Cities, and you will see it listed. Next to it click Abandon, enter your password, and OK. The city turns into a level 5 NPC town for you to attack. A level 5 NPC city has 3M food 450k Gold, and 180 of each other resource for roughly 5M resources you can plunder every 8 hours. So obviously having 25 – 35 of these close by will help you out a lot.
If you attack a flat and occupy it but the “Build City” icon is grayed out and doesn’t let you click on build a city try entering your other city and then selecting that valley to see if you can click “Build City” or if it is still grayed out. I have noticed that Build City was grayed out when I was “in” the same city as the troops occupying the flat I wanted to build in but when I select my other city and then click the flat I get the Build City option that is not grayed out.
Also, the more people you have around you, friendly or not, the more lvl 5 NPC’s you need because they will be attacking for those resources too cutting into your supply. So be sure to make plenty before you build your next city you want to keep because once you do that you need another Title promotion to open a city slot and they aren’t easy to come by.
