After 8 weeks and 52 days Avaatar finally relinquished the number 1 weekend spot to the opening of Dear John this past week which raked in $32M compared to Avatar’s $23M. The run certainly isn’t over for Avatar though as it remained the number 2 movie of the weekend by quite a margin and added to it’s already impressive total of $630M domestic and almost $1.7B foreign for a total of over $2.2B worldwide so far. At this point it looks like it could cross $2.5B in another month which is just mind boggling when you think about it. It was a great movie and is definitely worth seeing, even multiple times because it just won’t be the same at home.
